Feb. 2, 2014 - Winter Carnival – three $10 Chamber Bucks raffled off (in lieu of ice fishing contest)

Mar. 2014 – DNR depth study results - gained about ½ foot average - only three transects measured near lake middle

Mar. 25, 2014 – Board meeting – motion approved for $10 (Christmas Parade candy) and $30 (raffle) from brat fry funds

Apr. 29, 2014 – Board meeting – motion approved to spend up to $200 for a DNR permit to allow homeowner chemical treatments - motion approved for annual meeting to be held June 7, 2014 at the high school auditorium starting at 9am - motion approved to recommend $44,805.54 budget ($28,725.00 in 2013) - motion approved to recommend $43,555.54 tax levy ($27,425.00 in 2013) - motion approved to nominate Mike Devine for another three-year term on the board – motion approved to add John Bertelson’s name to the money market account – motion approved to recommend that the village add a “No Wake” sign at the boat landing – motion approved to set the annual meeting agenda

May 7, 2014 – Iola-Scandinavia High School Honor Society service day – students spread gravel along shore by dam

May 10, 2014 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – raised $472 - Jerry Harvancik, Dave Harper, Jack & Betty Kuhr, John Bertelson

May 2014 – DNR stocked 10,300 northern

Jun. 7, 2014 – Annual meeting – motion approved to set $44,805.54 budget - motion approved to set $43,555.54 tax levy - motion approved to elect Mike Devine for another three-year term on the board

Jun. 22, 2014 – First weed harvest began

Jun. 24, 2014 – Board meeting – 32 homeowners are interested in chemical treatments along 30 feet of their shores - Jerry Harvancik will run next ice fishing contest – motion approved to donate $50 from brat fry funds for July 3rd fireworks at park – motion approved to re-elect John Bertelson as Chairman, Dave Harper as Secretary and Mike Devine as Treasurer – Lyle Nauman offered to assist with goose control program on lake

Jun. 25, 2014 – DNR visited lake to survey for homeowner chemical treatments – a lot of beneficial aquatic plants were observed – suggested more harvesting be done – asked to consider a winter draw down in the future (Montello Lake contact)

Jul 1, 2014 – First weed harvest ended – 80 hours, $13,600 cost, 145 tons removed – lots of coontail and elodea – only one EWM plant found

Jul 10 to 13, 2014 – Iola Old Car Show – volunteers contributed 275.5 hours for the Lake District, which raised $1,653 to offset taxes

Jul. 19, 2014 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – raised $168.30 – Ron Thierfelder, Mike & Mary Devine, John Bertelson

Jul. 29, 2014 – Board meeting – 17 properties planned for chemical treatment with Diquat and algaecide – motion approved to add the boat landing to the chemical treatment list at a cost of $80 – motion approved to allow Chairman to schedule second weed harvest – village willing to finance goose control effort next year

Aug. 6, 2014 – 15 properties treated with Tribune (Diquat) and Cutrine Plus (algaecide) – reed canary, lily pads and algae appeared to die – other plants knocked down – treatment met expectations

Aug. 18, 2014 - Second weed harvest began

Aug. 2014 – “No Wake” sign installed by village at boat landing

Aug. 2014 – DNR stocked 5,150 large-mouth bass

Aug. 26, 2014 – Board meeting – second weed harvest will end early due to lack of weeds in permitted area – motion approved to recommend to annual meeting that the weed harvesting contract be extended one year (through 2016) at a rate of $175/hour – motion approved for Jerry Harvancik to spend up to $800 from the brat fry funds for the ice fishing contest – Lyle Nauman presented information on the goose control program through the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the USDA, village should budget around $2,000 for next year

Aug. 27, 2014 - Second weed harvest ended early – 62 hours, $10,540 cost, 52.5 tons removed – cut channel up to Tresness Road bridge without problems - coontail and elodea not as abundant

Sep. 3, 2014 – Public hearing on possible panfish regulation changes – Lake Iola not affected for now

Sep. 6, 2014 – Brat fry at Iola Sentry – raised $152 - Jerry Harvancik, Jack & Betty Kuhr, Keith Basar

Sep. 8, 2014 – DNR AIS survey – follow up from 2013 survey - found EWM, CLP, purple loosestrife, and banded mystery snail – the EWM sampled was a hybrid form, which is harder to chemically treat

Sep. 29, 2014 – DNR boom shocking fish survey – fish populations are recovering

Sep. 2014 – DNR point-intercept aquatic plant survey completed – about 3.5 days to gather data – aquatic plant community is in excellent shape – a total of 41 native plants were found compared to 28 in 2006 (pre-draw down), and compared to an average of 13 for most Wisconsin lakes – lake depth was much improved, being able to reach 70% of the points compared to only 45% in 2006 – should be able to access another 5% to 10% of the points when more reed canary grass and cattails die off – EWM reduced from 18% frequency in 2006 to only 0.8% now – CLP increased from 0% to 2.34%
