Proceedings of the Iola Village Board of Trustees, Monday, January 8, 2018, 6:00 p.m.
President Edler called the regular monthly meeting of the Iola Village Board of Trustees to order at 6:00 p.m. at the community center. President Edler made the open meeting statement that this meeting and all other meetings of this Board are open to the public. Proper notice has been posted and given to the press in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes so the citizenry may be made aware of the time, place and agenda of this meeting. Board members present; President Edler, Trustees Fenn, Harper, Briquelet and Rasmussen. Trustees Parks and Murphy were excused. Others present; clerk Johnson, attorney Meagher, Lyle Mork, Jerry Kopecky, Mark Sether, Officer Field and Holly Nueman. President Edler led the Board in the pledge of allegiance.
Moved by David Harper, seconded by Kathy Briquelet to approve minutes of the last regular meeting of December 11 as written, motion carried.
Moved by Jim Rasmussen, seconded by Missy Fenn, for the board to accept the police monthly statistical report as prepared by Chief Prahl, motion carried.
The monthly bills were presented to the finance committee for approval. The finance committee examined the bills and recommended that they be allowed. Moved by David Harper, seconded by Jim Rasmussen, that the recommendation of the finance committee be adopted and an order drawn on the treasury for the various amounts, motion carried.
Moved by Kathy Briquelet, seconded by David Harper, for the board to approve Taylor Field lease between the Village of Iola and the Iola-Scandinavia school district, (copy attached) motion carried.
Trustee Fenn reported on the Water Street water main break and valve repair. Trustee Rasmussen reported that total 2017 donations in the library expansion checking account amount to $92,599.54. The personnel committee will meet to discuss a proposed sexual harassment policy.
Jerry Kopecky gave a presentation to the Village Board regarding his proposal to donate property which he owns located on North Chet Krause Drive to the Village. Mr. Kopecky would like to donate the property to the Village, raze the building and then create Chet Krause Memorial Park on the site. Mr. Kopecky would see that the building was razed, the trees are removed and a suitable landscape is included. It will almost certainly included outdoor restroom facilities as well. Mr. Kopecky will be responsible to initiate the project and has sought donations to help pay for the expense. His request is that once the park has been originally established, the Village of Iola would accept title to it and then become responsible for its ongoing maintenance and use.
Mark Sether appeared with Mr. Kopecky and informed the Village Board that the Krause Foundation has already considered and approved making a substantial donation to the project.
Following the presentation, it was moved by David Harper, seconded by Jim Rasmussen, to accept the donation of the park on the basis of the presentation made at the meeting, motion unanimously carried.
